NHF’s Disaster Relief Fund was established to aid the hospice community when disaster overwhelms regularly-available resources. Financial donations are one of the most helpful ways to address needs in the imminent wake of destruction. NHF works directly with state hospice and palliative care associations to respond in the most effective manner; state associations often know the needs and priorities of providers in affected regions best. It has been used to assist hospices affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, and acts of violence. The funds can be used to address the greatest needs, from structural repairs to bereavement services for the community.
LMHPCO’s Prison Hospice Support Project supports and encourages better endof- life care within 6 state correctional facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi, offering models for better care within correctional facilities across the country. The Support Project provides scholarships and continuing education for hospice professionals within corrections as well as to inmate hospice volunteers. The Alliance, monitors both the Mississippi and Louisiana Legislatures in order to alert members of any legislation that can effect hospice patients, as well as the providers who care for them.
